![]() She might be popular and status might mean something to her, but it doesn’t mean more than her opinions. She strikes me as the type of person who’s just brutally honest with her opinions. She’s likable enough to not lose her status despite hanging out with Valerie, and enough that Paulina seems to actually genuinely care about her. She says she’s her best friend and they have to find her because she doesn’t have her sunblock and burns easily.įrom these things, I get the impression that while Star comes off as nagging and bratty to the people she’s not fond of, she’s actually an incredibly loyal and caring friend to those she is. Here, despite most of her friendships being superficial, Paulina actually breaks down in tears when Star goes missing from the campsite. In fact, there are actually only two: Danny Phantom and Star. Paulina is usually someone who cares about status first and foremost. This is from season 3, but Claw of the Wild is actually an episode I quite enjoy, and I think this moment is pretty excellent. And interestingly enough, she’s the only person Paulina ever shows genuine concern for. She’s clearly not, as she cares about Valerie and Kwan regardless of their status. I don’t really think this is because she’s mean, though. She’s really demanding toward Tucker when they’re dating, and she has no problem dumping him immediately when she’s interested in someone else. She has no qualms about telling Valerie exactly what she thinks of her new crush (Danny) and repeating the same right to his face. However, Star’s clearly not somebody who’ll befriend people out of pity. Star starts dating Kwan during the time when he’s been demoted to loser status, and she’s the only one among the popular kids to remain friends with Valerie when the same happens to her. ![]() Which makes it interesting that she’s the one person in the popular group to go against social expectations. As an example, she fully expected Tucker to make a move on her once their best friends started dating. That said, Star’s still a cheerleader and still seems to care about social expectations. She’s clearly considered attractive, but she’s not as high up on the food chain as others, despite Paulina referring to her as her best friend. Star was just sort of an occasional member of the group. She’s seen a few times, but the popular crowd seemed to be ruled by Dash, Paulina, Kwan, and Valerie. The interesting thing about Star is that she’s not often seen with the popular kids in the initial episodes. Since Lucky in Love is the one episode where she gets any kind of focus, I figured this was as good a time as any to talk about her. There are a lot of others that I like as well, but there’s something about Star that makes her feel really real to me, like she really does have her own life outside of the main characters. Not gonna lie, since I started rewatching this show, Star has quickly become one of my favorite background characters.
